MarketingVOX: Cablevision is aiming for more than 500 channels of high definition TV programming by the end of 2007, reports Reuters.
The company just added 15 HD channels from Voom HD Networks, bringing its current tally to 40 HD "choices" - that is, not only channels but services like HD On Demand, for its customers. Competitor Comcast is promising to deliver 400 HD "choices" by the end of the year and 800 by the end of '08.
Cable companies are in turn facing increased competition from satellite and phone companies to deliver HD programming. Verizon is rolling out its FiOS service, while DirecTV has promised 150 HD channels by end-of-year and will launch a new satellite to support the endeavor.
