'Desperate Housewives' Rallies after Series Low

MediaBuyerPlanner: ABC's Sunday hit, Desperate Housewives, has navigated turbulent waters this season, hitting several low points when it looked as though viewers were beginning to head elsewhere for their Sunday night entertainment. But last Sunday the show bounced back from a series low the week before to its best original outing in more than a month.

Desperate Housewives averaged a 6.6 adults 18-49 according to Nielsen overnights, up 10 percent from the previous week, writes Media Life. It was the night's highest rated show, though it was still slightly down from its season-to-date average of 6.9 (and down quite a bit from this time last year).

The improvement may be due to the fact that it was the fourth straight original show, which may have brought back some viewers. The series had been in repeats for several weeks before that. It may also be possible that audiences for many shows will increase as series build toward their season finales. Finally, NBC's Deal or No Deal, which generally runs opposite Housewives, was on hiatus on Sunday. NBC ratings were down with Deal's replacement, the movie Along Came Polly.
