MarketingVOX: The organization behind the Emmy Awards has just decided to include award categories that highlight excellence in online advertising, reports AdAge.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences will announce the creation of four new categories to recognize broadband-quality ads. The categories are divided by platform: Web ads, portable device ads, set-top box ads and video-game ads. Each was created to recognize shifts in prioritized media platforms and lend advantage to non-Super Bowl productions.

The television academy worked with the Association of National Advertisers to develop the awards. Nominees will be announced in October. Awards will be presented at a special Emmy Awards ceremony held at the Consumer Electronics Show.
