MarketingVOX: Brilliance Audio, an audiobooks publisher, has just been acquired by Amazon.com for an undisclosed sum, according to a press release.
The acquisition will enable Amazon to expand its audiobooks line. Brilliance, which will continue to operate independently within the Amazon umbrella, can also develop and distribute audiobooks less expensively with the resources available to the larger brand. Recently Amazon announced plans to build a DRM-free music store, for example.
Traditionally considered the red-headed stepchild of publishing houses, audiobooks have become a topic of interest as companies and authors seek ways to disseminate content less expensively and more rapidly across multiple channels.
CustomFlix, an Amazon subsidiary, also announced it now supports both CD and mp3-CD audiobook formats for its Disc on Demand service.
