Home Depot May Sell Wholesale Supplier Business

stumbleupon digg del.icio.us

MediaBuyerPlanner: Home Depot, which just over a year ago bought wholesale supplier Hughes Supply for $3.2 billion, is considering selling it or spinning it off in order to focus on its retail business.

The purchase was reportedly the brainchild of former chairman and CEO Robert Nardelli, who left the job in January after a six month tenure, writes DM News. Nardelli wanted to supply professional builders, contractors and maintenance workers, seeing them as a significant opportunity for the business, since the home supply market is $410 billion. Growing reports of poor customer service in Home Depot stores, however, put a stop to the focus on that sector.
