What do you get when you mix IM, blogging, flash, addictive behavior, RSS and fun? Twitter. Everyone who uses it answers one question: "What are you doing...?"

Using Twitter is as simple as sending an IM. You can use Twitter from your computer, mobile or IM. Your updates are published online and in an RSS feed too.You can add your Twitter posts to any web page, including My Space, blogs, wikis. And you can build a flash page, like this. You can choose to make your updates part of the public conversation, or only make them available only to your friends. My Twitter page is here
Frankly, I don't give out my cell phone number to anyone but my closest friends and family. So I'm not adding Twitter to my cell any time soon, even though I pay only $5 a month for unlimited texting.
Travel PR Blog calls it "the bastard love child or IM and blogging."
Many of the digerati already are there, including:
Robert Scoble
Bobbie Johnson of The Guardian
Sam Sethi formerly of TechCrunch
Anil Dash of Six Apart
I see plenty of business applications, and have already set up an account for Wife in the Fast Lane. You can find a link there for a sneak peak to the contest that launches Wednesday morning. Shhh!
You can get comments about Steve Jobs' CES keynote address via Twitter, courtesy of Macworld's Twitter page. And you can get BBC News updates.
OK marketers, start Twittering.

Sounds great, BL. And perhaps some day I'll check it out. But honestly, I'm feeling a bit burned out.
The technology widgets and gadgets are coming too fast, and I need to step back so I can focus on good, solid and old-fashioned marketing again. When Twitter achieves market density, I'll check it out.

I wouldn't write about it if I didn't think it was a big deal. It's a fantastic networking opportunity; a really great marketing opportunity; an interesting international community; and it's fun.
You can't say that about two many other innovations.
Light your fire Lewis and go take a look.

I think you caused Twitter to explode. It's so slow!

I tried it out a couple months ago and honestly found it more novel than practical. I really don't care what people are doing right now; having lunch with a colleague, taking photos, going for a walk. If they have something useful to say...put it in a blob post. I wouldn't want to inundate my friends and associates' time.
That's just me though; I really don't like to be a cynic. Enjoy it if you like it!

I'm on my way - like I say "why NOT bite off more than you can chew" - all of this stuff is fascinating in a real sense. And I love international :)

I am using twitter to create a community for Wife in the Fast Lane, the new contest I am launching today at http://karenquinn.net/wife-in-the-fast-lane-contest/ for author Karen Quinn.
Twitter is much less cluttered and simpler than MySPace, and I think it will be very effective as a community building tool.
Feel free to dismiss it, but I think you will make a huge mistake if you do.
