Book Club or Bust! (Get Ready for Group Review)

stumbleupon digg del.icio.us

A NYC girl without a car--I hop the subway to all points north, south, east and west--getting to our Book Club's first Group Review by next Wednesday, January 10th has posed some unique challenges. But we marketers aren't shy to a hearty challenge. We don't cower, we just get creative....

Bolstered by will and armed with my backpack, my book and my thumb I decided to start my journey at the center of it all... Times Square.

My biggest fear wasn't catching a ride in time, it was that my conservative southern momma would find out I was chattin' up strangers. I kept a pretty low profile until I ran into some fellow Book Club Members right here in the Big Apple--my we bookworms are a rowdy crowd, eh?

As you can imagine, with this level of involvement and enthusiasm over our current segment word spread and word spread fast. Once momma got wind of what I was up to she sent in backup to ensure I would not only make it to Group Review on time, but in one piece.

That woman doesn't mess around; she sent in The National Guard to escort me (um, next time can you send a limo?).

And here I thought the military was busy protecting our national security interests but, as the camouflaged captain explained, uniting marketers from near and far to share knowledge makes the world smarter...which is in everyone's best interests (including Uncle Sam).

But the buck stopped at the border. So now I'm fueled by the wind--in addition to my will--and adrift on one of the seven seas. My sea legs about me I'm having a "whale" of a time...

Never fear bookworms: I'll be on time for our Book Club's first Group Review and shall meet up with you fine marketers next Wednesday, January 10th. So get excited and get ready--we have a lot to discuss and many members ready to weigh-in!

Certainly after this arduous a journey by your Host(ess), you folks will have your books read, right? If not, I've got backup, too--I'll just send momma after you.

BookClub_Bubble_FINAL.gifP.S.: On January 10th, I'll post instructions on Group Review right here at The Daily Fix Blog, as well as email the information to all members. And yes, you can still sign-up...you'll just need to get your hands on a copy of Citizen Marketers, and have it read by next Wednesday. Simply drop an email saying "I'm in!" to bookclub@marketingprofs.com.

Corrections and Clarifications: In a December 8th, 2006 post titled "Bookworms Are Cool....And Global" the reference to "the book club has caught on across all continents (save Antarctica)" should not have been written so as to isolate our glacial peers. Apparently we ticked-off some book smart penguins. CK and MarketingProfs regret the error.

CK, you do stand out in a crowd. I can't wait for the group review party. I'll bring the coffee.

One question: should we get the instructions on Group Review the day before? (I'm flashing back to never being prepared for tests and suffering the consequences.)

Wow, you've been through so much! :)

I especially love that guy standing to your left out on the street in the long black jacket. He looks like he's ready to party! And then read!

Can't wait til next week, Keep on truckin'!

CK, you crack me up! It truly seems that nothing will stop you - not even unruly penguins. Batman would be proud.

CK - what a great update! And, how lucky for you to have a man in uniform provide assistance!

Can't wait to get involved in this!

Nice work. I love the cardboard sign, nice touch!

Looks like your gonna make it CK - and none the worse for wear! You're taking this citizne marketing straight to heart! Anybody ask you what book club you were? lol - those penguins crack me up

Hey all you bookworms: Sorry I couldn’t get through until now but, as you can understand, the wireless connection on my PDA is spotty at best here on the high sea…and it’s kind of bouncy to type on this raft.

Plus, don’t tell but that whale is getting on my nerves a little. Really looking forward to Group Review, dry land and to all those who've signed-up today, I say: welcome to the exchange of ideas....

LMAO! Great pics! And does anyone else notice that CK is doing some great citizen marketing for the book Citizen Marketers?

When the community and passion collide, marketing magic happens....

Wow... persistent perseverance. No wonder the BC is a success!

With fun like this, BC should be a lot of fun too.

    Looking forward to it.

Sorry you pissed off the penguins- they're a tough group.

CK, that is just too funny! I wasn't going to do the book club because I hadn't had a chance to finish my copy of the book yet. But it looks like too much darn fun to miss. I'm going to sign up right now.

CK - If the DF book club is anything like the fun and energy of this post Oprah beware. Ditto Nedra's comment.

    Hi CKini!

I love the penguins...they rocked (especially the "We were robbed"), and so do you! Can't wait to read more!!!!

It WAS you I saw in Times Square recently, trying to hitch a ride. New York cabbies don't respond to the outsretched thumb, unless there's a $5 bill in it. You'll eventually learn it's not like back in Georgia.

    Book Club should be fun.

    CK,

So if I read between the lines (and the penguins)...you are considering starting a book club then?

    Drew :)

CK brings a ton of energy to the table, or book club, or whatever she sets her mind to....! Definitely should be a lively discussion!

And if anyone's wondering, she'll post full instructions to walk you the "how" of it all next week.... it'll be a piece of cake.

Before you know it, CK may find the Department of Energy knocking on her door, wondering if she's some sort of potential generator for powering major cities.

Thanks for all of the creative work (and energy) for launching the MPBC.

One more day to go, ck.

Nice work. I love the cardboard sign, nice touch!
