MarketingVOX: Nielsen/NetRatings claims that Web 2.0 sites such as MySpace and YouTube are the fastest-growth area on the internet.

The claim was made during a presentation by Nielsen/NetRatings at Ad:Tech New York this week, MediaPost reports. The presentation explained that Web 2.0 sites, or those that allow users to communicate with friends, enjoyed the fastest growth over the last year. The sites with the highest growth in traffic included Feedburner (up 385 percent), Digg.com (up 286 percent), MySpace (up 170 percent), Wikipedia (up 161 percent), and Facebook (up 134 percent).

Roy de Souza, CEO of ad serving network Zedo, added during the panel that among the Web 2.0 sites to keep an eye on are yelp, which has user restaurant reviews; dogster, for dog lovers; online gaming community Xfire; Eons, aimed at baby boomers over 50; and video-sharing service BitTorrent.

The panel also agreed that advertising will be the predominant business model for Web 2.0 sites, with remnant advertising usually carrying a CPM of less than $1, according to deSouza. Conversion rates are around 0.1 percent - better than many news sites, but not as good as on premium sites such as iVillage, he said.

The panel also concluded that the future of video advertising is especially bright.
