HoneyBaked Issues Massive Recall

stumbleupon digg del.icio.us

MediaBuyerPlanner: HoneyBaked Foods likely feels less than jolly heading into this holiday season after being forced to issue a massive recall, to the tune of some 24 tons of hams and turkeys.

The cataloger/retailer began issuing recalls on Nov. 22, because the meats may have contained listeria, writes Multichannel Merchant. The U.S.D.A. got involved by Nov. 25, making the recall mandatory.

The suspected meats were sold at HoneyBaked's retail location in Toledo, OH, and at kiosks in Toledo, Maumee, and Woodville Ohio. Catalog orders shipped from HoneyBaked's Holland, Ohio, facility were also recalled.

HoneyBaked Foods took out full-page ads on consecutive days - Nov. 23-25 - in the Toledo Blade newspaper to alert consumers, as well as calling and emailing customers to inform them of the recall.

The HoneyBaked Foods website does not directly address the issue, the article points out. To find information about it, a visitor must click on a small link titled "HoneyBaked Foods Toledo Ohio information," which then takes them to a screen that says, "Questions about the HoneyBaked Foods of Toledo voluntary recall? To find out if the recall affects you, please select the state you purchased from."

The recall notice tells customers that they can "receive a full refund, and HoneyBaked Foods will make arrangements to pick up any unused portion of the product. This is fully consistent with our previous notification and product recovery action and no additional product has been implicated."
