MarketingVOX: Google has created a new, unbranded site called SearchMash, where user-interface features and ideas can be tested.
SearchMash allows users to perform a search with web and image results presented side by side, SearchEngineWatch writes. Search results are listed in the main left-hand column after a search and ranked similar to Google's, but with numbered results that can be clicked on and moved up or down in the listing.
Google tells SearchEngineWatch that the goal of SearchMash is to test innovative user interfaces in an attempt to improve the overall search experience for its users. And Google says the main reason for not branding SearchMash as a Google product is that it didn't want feedback to be influenced by the Google branding.
