I have noticed a lot of blog posts talking about cars or motorbikes recently....
There are articles on new cars, on vintage cars, on toy cars and even model racing cars. Motorbikes on the other hand seem to polarise a little, with people either loving or hating them.
But no matter whether the subject is a Ducati, a Kawasaki, an MG or a merry-go-round, they all have something in common -- every article is filled with an authentic energy and a driving passion (sorry couldn't resist). It could well be that blogs are the BEST method of communicating the brand promise of cars and motorbikes. Why?
There is something about cars and bikes that catches our attention. There is the sense of danger ... the expectation that something BAD could happen to us. And there is the physicality of the machine ... the sound, the colour, the pure shiny chrome that reflects our image. But there is more ... because within every car and every motorbike, there is a story waiting to happen. And the story can only come to life when WE enter into it ... when we actively engage the vehicle and begin to travel.
It is very much like blogging. To really get the blog experience, you have to climb aboard, start the engine and head off into the traffic. Are you going to enjoy it? Are you going to reach your destination in one piece? Will you have or cause an accident? These are all important questions, but they are answers that only YOU can answer ONCE you have started.
Sure you might be a little unsteady at first. But you won't forget the thrill.
And best of all ... you don't need a license. Just a sense of adventure.

That's definitely a good analogy because if you screw up at blogging, it's important that you immediately make another post, lol....

Hmmm, an article about blogging and motorbikes... Yeah, I think I'll comment on this.
Love the analogy Gavin (as always). And the similarities are true. Every time I post something, I know I'm putting myself on the line, just as every time I fire up the bike, I know something bad could happen.
But you have to live you know? Life is too short. I love blogging, it's become the ultimate creative outlet for me. And I love riding. It brings me peace and most importantly it's a great break from technology and all things digital.
"the pure shiny chrome that reflects our image."
And wow. I really love this statement. Blogs are shiny expressions of ourselves. Like a motorbilke, blogs can be customized to represent our own personal brands. Some aren't. But just like when you see a really unique bike on the road, whether it's vintage or totally customized—people tend to stop and notice.
Great first post Gavin. Welcome to the Fix.

Another reason I like Gavin's analogy is the interactivity inherent in driving a bike or car.... You can sit on a bike (or in a car) and not go anywhere. You can park on your own blog and not really "go" anywhere, either.
But you don't really GET anywhere -- literally, metaphorically -- until you start tooling around a bit. That's when the fun happens. Pull out on the road -- hop off your own blog and start the interaction.

And something else about blogging, you REALLY have to be in this space, before you 'get it'. Until you see how quickly ideas can spread, and how a growing community can impact your blog's influence, you truly cannot appreciate this medium.
BTW great first post, welcome aboard Gavin!
