Fox to Offer TV, Movie Downloads via MySpace, IGN

stumbleupon digg del.icio.us

MarketingVOX: Fox will distribute movies and TV shows via the company's websites, including MySpace.

News Corp.'s Fox will be distributing movies (including X-Men: The Last Stand) and TV shows (e.g., Prison Break and 24) via MySpace.com and Direct2Drive, and perhaps other websites it owns, reports CNET. TV shows will cost $1.99 to download, movies will cost $19.99. The move is seen as an effort by Hollywood to ensure Apple's iTunes does not come to dominate movie digital distribution as it has digital music. iTunes offers some Fox shows, but they're viewable only on Apple products, such as the iPod.

Fox's IGN Entertainment, which offers videogame downloads, is providing the distribution platform; it will provide the first downloads - on IGN's Direct2Drive website, in October.
