ABC Leaves Sundays Open, Networks Eager to Fill in

MediaBuyerPlanner: With ABC's Desperate Housewives on the decline since January and Grey's Anatomy moving to Thursdays this fall, the network suddenly seems vulnerable, while three of the other four networks are posing very aggressive new challenges to Sunday night, writes Media Life.

NBC targets men with Sunday Night Football, CBS lines up Without a Trace, wooing the older than 18-49 demo, and the CW plans to run an urban sitcom block aimed at attracting black viewers, making Sunday night competitive for the first time in two years.

"Moving 'Without a Trace' to Sunday night has the most potential of any programming move this season. It is the highest night for TV usage levels, and CBS used to rule that night until ABC bolstered it in recent years. Clearly CBS wants it back," said one media researcher.

ABC could still regain the dominance it showed earlier this year on Sundays with Brothers - which features Ally McBeal star Calista Flockhart - receiving a good early buzz from media buyers.
