If the shoe fits, buy another one and wear both. This is the old saw that seems to apply here.
If the sample proves out, there is no reason to believe that a hammer-like follow-through won't.
Faith, courage, and a lot of guts are the essential ingredients.

i would suggest that mack is definitely right about how companies and agencies act sometimes. but it seems to me that this action to expose the community can be justified in a mass media environment, while in a direct response world exposure without action is not enough. this is the key factor to turn this attitude.
david, i think that a lot of people around, including myself, will use this chart.

The hard part for marketers, as Mack said, is to consider what their audience would want. No matter how much we think we may fit into the target audience's shoes, we can't honestly say we know what they want because our opinions are skewed by the work we do for our clients. Marketers (including myself) need to do better at selling the value of customer research to our clients, even for a simple online marketing campaign. Sure, we can throw up a series of ads that sell our client's widgets at 20% off, and they may do well, but are we doing the audience a disservice at the same time? Could we have applied the checklist above to something as simple as a sale on an widget and done better? Maybe. Hopefully. The resulting creative may even be the same, but at least we did our homework the right way. Good post, darmano. :)

Excellent rationale for producing a visual checklist/roadmap.
I really enjoyed this--and have shared it with others. And, like Lewis, I have "copied" it to use with my clients, too.

"Nothing wrong with this at all–but we cannot forget that at the end of the day, a video is a passive experience. It can make us laugh, cry and want to share it with others–we just can't interact with or actively engage with a video. In contrast, you CAN interact with YouTube itself. Imagine if an agency had come up with that idea?"
That would require them putting themselves in their customers' shoes and considering what THEY could get from the experience.
Companies/agencies don't think this way. They want to make sure the community is exposed to their message. If they would shift their thinking to how can they improve the community's experience, they'd be sitting on a goldmine.
This isn't rocket science, just consider the wants and needs of your community.
